Before I start an oil portrait I always do some preparatory sketches. I try to thoroughly familiarize myself with the subject . In the case of Dave Beal’s portrait I had to decide on which expression to use for the painting.
Dave Beal is a multi -faceted character who’s exploits I am unable to divulge here . In the painting he is examining The Guardian newspaper. The headline reads Lebanese Gold Market Fall - this I am told is the highest quality cannabis.
